Veterans Day events begin Friday across Whatcom County

Events across Whatcom County will honor veterans before and on Veterans Day, which is Tuesday, Nov. 11. These events are free unless otherwise noted.

BELLINGHAM CHRISTIAN SCHOOL

10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 7

Bellingham Christian, 1600 E. Sunset Drive.

Veterans and currently serving troops will be honored during a ceremony featuring chaplain and retired U.S. Navy Capt. Barry Crane. Following a music performance, attendees will hear from three World War II veterans and a concentration camp survivor. Every veteran goes home with a cookie package. Veterans and those currently serving are encouraged to wear their uniforms, medals, hats or other military wear.

FERNDALE HIGH SCHOOL ASSEMBLY

Meet and greet breakfast at 8 a.m., first assembly at 9 a.m., second assembly at 10:15, Friday, Nov. 7.

Ferndale High auditorium, 5830 Golden Eagle Drive.

Veterans are welcome to attend breakfast and share their stories with students at the meet and greet before the assemblies. Veterans and community members are invited to attend one or both assemblies. Veterans will be recognized at the events.

BLAINE SENIOR CENTER SALUTE

Lunch (suggested donation $6) at 11:30 a.m., program starts at noon Monday, Nov. 10.

Blaine Senior Center, 763 G. St.

Blaine Mayor Harry Robinson and members of Albert J. Hamilton American Legion Post No. 7 will honor veterans for their service and offer information on veterans benefits.

VETERANS DINNER

6:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 10.

Bellingham Elks Club, 710 Samish Way.

The Albert J. Hamilton American Legion Post No. 7 color guard will present the colors, followed by a program honoring veterans. Call the Elks at 360-733-3333 for details.

AMERICAN LEGION CEREMONY

11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 11.

Bellingham City Hall, 210 Lottie St.

Veterans to be honored by Albert J. Hamilton American Legion Post No. 7 at a. ceremony in the City Hall lobby. Music begins at 10:30 a.m. with ceremony at 11 featuring keynote speaker Whatcom County Sheriff Bill Elfo. Bellingham High School Alumni Band and the Bellingham Bagpipers are scheduled to perform. Post 7 Commander Rick Sucee will be the master of ceremonies.

FEES WAIVED AT STATE PARKS

Tuesday, Nov. 11

In honor of Veterans Day, no Discover Pass is required for state parks, including the three in Whatcom County: Birch Bay State Park, Larrabee State Park and Peace Arch State Park.
