40th, 42nd House candidates to debate Oct. 23 in Bellingham

This week voters can hear from candidates who will face off in the Nov. 4 election for seats in the state House of Representatives, Districts 40 and 42.

The League of Women Voters of Bellingham and Whatcom County will host its final general election forum from to 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 23, at Bellingham Municipal Court, 2014 C St.

Doors open at 5:50 p.m.; audience members will need to pass through court security scanners.

Candidates scheduled to debate at the forum include 40th District Position 1 incumbent Kristine Lytton, a Democrat, and her challenger Republican Daniel Miller; 42nd District Position 1 candidates Luanne VanWerven, a Republican, and Democrat Satpal Sidhu; and 42nd District Position 2 incumbent Vincent Buys, a Republican, and his challenger Democrat Joy Monjure. The 40th District Position 2 is held by Democrat Jeff Morris, who is not contested in the election and won’t be at the forum.

The event will be broadcast live on the city’s public access channel, BTV10, Comcast channel 10 in Bellingham, and at cob.org/services/education/btv10.
