Bellingham’s Chuckanut Brewery picked up a gold medal at the Great American Beer Festival earlier this month in Denver.

The brewery was awarded the top medal for its Chuckanut dunkel lager in the European-style dunkel category on Oct. 4. The festival had 5,507 entries by 1,309 breweries, according to a news release from the festival.

Chuckanut’s dunkel is a deep reddish-brown color to make it a dark lager beer, according to a company news release. Its dunkel has won 10 medals since first entering beer competitions in 2009.

Chuckanut Brewery & Kitchen is at 601 W. Holly St. Details can be found at chuckanutbreweryandkitchen.com.
