Whatcom County seeks input on long-range growth plan

The Whatcom County Planning Commission will hold a town-hall meeting on the next update of the 20-year growth plan, or comprehensive plan.

The town hall is at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 9, at the county courthouse, 311 Grand Ave.

County leaders are expected to make a final decision in 2016 on the plan, which guides growth and development within the county and its seven cities.

County officials seek input from the public on the wide range of issues covered in the plan, including how much cities should be allowed to expand their boundaries; the intensity of development allowed in rural areas; and future needs in transportation, jobs, recreation and environmental protection.

Comments may be provided at the meeting or via email to PDS_Planning_Commission@co.whatcom.wa.us.
