Bellingham walk to support people with Down syndrome and their families set for Oct. 4

The 11th annual Whatcom County Buddy Walk, which raises awareness and money for programs that benefit people with Down syndrome and their families, is Saturday, Oct. 4.

The event, which includes a 1.25-mile walk, is 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Fairhaven Village Green, 10th Street and Mill Avenue. More than 300 people are expected.

The registration fee is $5 for children 6 to 12 years old and $10 for those 13 and older. There is no fee for people with Down syndrome, or children 5 and younger.

Lunch, a raffle, face painting, music and silent auction also will be part of the event, which is one of more than 250 Buddy Walks planned across the country. The music will be provided by Out of the Ashes, a local band made up of musicians with developmental disabilities.
