Hunting with Heroes trip starts with public sendoff in Bellingham at noon Oct. 2

This year’s Hunting with Heroes excursion will have a public start at noon Thursday, Oct., 2, that features actor Ronald Lee Ermey, famous for his role as Gunnery Sgt. Hartman in the movie “Full Metal Jacket.”

With help from donations from local businesses, Hunting with Heroes provides a free hunting and fishing trip in south-central Washington to military veterans from Whatcom, Skagit and north Snohomish counties.

The public sendoff for the veterans will start at the headquarters of McNett Corp., 1411 Meador Ave., in Haskell Business Center. Ermey will lead a procession of veteran and police motorcyclists out of town while businesses and Carl Cozier Elementary students wave flags as a show of support.

Ermey will be at McNett starting at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, along with well-wishers from the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Marine Corps League. The public is welcome.
