Plastic pollution in ocean focus of Bellingham program

Plastic pollution, even in the most remote reaches of the marine environment, will be the focus of a Wednesday, Oct. 1, event at RE Sources for Sustainable Communities.

The free program includes a presentation by Jo Ruxton, an underwater wildlife film producer who is part of a team making a documentary about the issue.

The event is 7 to 8 p.m. in the Sustainable Living Center, 2309 Meridian St. in Bellingham, on the second floor. Access is from the RE Store parking lot.

It will include a showing of the trailer for a film that is part of Plastic Oceans, an international campaign to reduce plastic pollution in the environment.

RE Sources and the Whatcom County Marine Resources Committee are sponsoring the event.

Ruxton’s work has included productions such as Blue Planet, Saving Planet Earth and Pacific Abyss.
