Two new vehicle electric charging stations installed in downtown Bellingham

Two new charging stations for electric vehicles have been installed in the South Lot of Railroad Avenue near La Fiamma Wood Fire Pizza.

John Blethen, owner of New Whatcom Interiors, donated the stations. City of Bellingham crews installed them at 1100 Railroad Ave. in the downtown.

Electric-vehicle owners using the stations will pay the standard rate for parking, which is 75 cents an hour, to cover the cost of the electricity, according to a news release from the city of Bellingham.

They will pay at nearby automated pay stations.

Blethen said he donated the stations because he wanted to help reduce carbon emissions.
