Industrial Credit Union was awarded a grant for nearly $2 million to help the Whatcom County agriculture industry.
The grant is one of 21 given to credit unions across the nation from the U.S. Department of Treasury for community development. According to a news release, Industrial Credit Union will use the grant to expand its business relations department, specifically to create more lending opportunities for farmers, ranchers and others in the agriculture business.
“The intent is to provide funding for loans that will allow for job creation, larger crops and herds so that more food products are produced and processed locally,” said Terri Salstrom, ICU president and CEO.
