Lake Whatcom’s water level will drop earlier than normal this year so the city can start work on a stormwater improvement project at Bloedel Donovan Park.
The reservoir, controlled by a dam at Whatcom Creek, will be dropped to winter level around Oct. 6, according to city staff. People who own property on the lake should be prepared for the lower level by that date.
As part of the project at Bloedel Donovan Park, staff will remove a few trees and a concrete bulkhead near the boat launch, put in sand and other stormwater-filtering materials along the shoreline, and add plants.
