Bellingham meeting will explore democracy in digital age of journalism

A public meeting called “Sustaining Democracy in the New Age of Journalism” will be hosted at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 20, by the League of Women Voters and Bellingham Public Library.

The meeting in the downstairs lecture room of the library’s main branch, 210 Central Ave., will feature Joan Connell and Dean Wright of the international consulting firm Connell Wright Media.

Wright and Connell have extensive experience in print and digital media. Wright has expertise in editorial ethics, standards and innovation on a global scale. Connell is an award-winning journalist, news consultant and Western Washington University educator with a longstanding interest in ethical and moral issues in journalism. She formerly was a reporter and editor at The Bellingham Herald.

The program also will look at the “information health” of Whatcom County and help participants strengthen their ability to access digital journalism. People are encouraged to bring a laptop, tablet or smartphone to learn new ways to connect to news sources.
