Maple Falls woman dies in Mount Baker Highway crash

DEMING - A Maple Falls woman died after crashing her car into an embankment off Mount Baker Highway early Thursday, Jan. 30, according to the Washington State Patrol.

Ashleigh N. Graham, 27, was driving west in the 8700 block of the highway at about 12:40 a.m. when her 1988 Honda Civic went off the right side of the road, struck an embankment and came to rest in a deep ditch.

A passerby spotted the car and called 911. Graham was pronounced dead at the scene. She wasn't wearing a seatbelt.

Troopers believe she may have been driving too fast for the conditions.

Graham had been a lift attendant at Mt. Baker Ski Area for the past three seasons, often working Chair 7, where she was always energetic and friendly with skiers and snowboarders, operations manager Gwyn Howat said.

"She was one of the best. She was a gregarious, enthusiastic and happy person," Howat said. "She just is a person with enthusiastic energy. When that is gone, it will be missed."
