Primary ballots due for Bellingham School Board seat

The Secretary of State suggests voters turn in their primary ballots today, though ballots officially must be postmarked or dropped off by Tuesday, Aug. 6, to be valid.

Hue Beattie, 66, and John Blethen, 69, are running against incumbent Steve Smith, 50 for a seat on the Bellingham School Board. The top two vote-getters advance to the Nov. 5 general election.

Information on candidates, including their responses about key issues in their districts, can be found at bellinghamherald.com/voter-guide.

The postal service recommends mailing ballots no later than Monday, Aug. 5, to ensure a valid postmark. Or drop them off in boxes at the Blaine Library, 610 3rd St., the Auditor's Office in the Whatcom County Courthouse, 311 Grand Ave. in Bellingham, or the box in the courthouse parking lot.
