87-hour I-5 lane closure over; WSDOT delays next one because of weather (Traffic Talk blog)

Northbound Interstate 5 between Burlington and Lake Samish now has both lanes open for drivers, the state Department of Transportation reports.

The opening was right on time. Crews just finished with an 87-hour, around-the-clock closure of one lane. During the closure, which caused (as expected) significant backups, crews accomplished the following, according to the DOT:

• Repaired several bridges• Tied 2.5 miles of concrete panels together with 6,000 dowel bars• Stabalized another six miles of concrete panels• Paved eight miles with asphalt
