A driver and a passenger inside a 1998 Mercedes-Benz sedan died after the Mercedes drifted off of Birch Bay-Lynden Road and struck a tree early Sunday morning, March 29.
The Mercedes was traveling westbound on the 3600 block of Birch Bay-Lynden Road at about 2:23 a.m. when it crossed the center line and went off the road into a field, said Sgt. Steve Gatterman of the Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office.
Eventually the car struck a tree, which toppled upon impact and fell on the front end of the car. The driver and the front seat passen-ger were pronounced dead on the scene, Gatterman said.
A third backseat passenger was transported to the hospital with minor injuries.
