Bellingham flags lowered to honor community leaders

The Bellingham City Council authorized lowering flags to half staff Thursday, Jan. 15, to honor two community leaders who died during the past month.

Harold "Barney" Goltz, former state senator and a figure in local civic life, died Dec. 25 at age 84. Former KVOS newsman and congressional staffer Andy Anderson died Jan. 4 at age 77.

The City Council authorized the flag lowering after Mayor Dan Pike proclaimed Jan. 12 as "Harold 'Barney' Goltz Day" and Jan. 13 as "Andy Anderson Day," Pike said. .
