Everson Police arrest of a man in a van turns out to be a bit of a bull story

A 39-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly stealing a large Mercedes van with $10,000 worth of frozen bull semen inside.

Ivan Leo Matthew Edwards was booked into Whatcom County Jail on suspicion of possession of a stolen vehicle, resisting arrest, obstructing a police officer, third-degree driving with a suspended license, and first-degree possession of stolen property – the bull semen – because it was worth more than $5,000.

Edwards, of Everson, allegedly stole the van belonging to West Select Sires, which is involved in cattle breeding, out of a driveway on the 200 block of East 2nd Street in Everson at 9:45 a.m. Saturday, according to Everson Police Chief Daniel MacPhee.

Police found the van at 1:45 p.m. the same day on the 100 block of Park Drive near Riverside Park and pulled the driver over.

It required repeated commands to get the driver out of the vehicle and to show his hands, MacPhee said, adding Edwards also resisted arrest by trying to prevent police from handcuffing him.

No one was hurt in the incident.
