A warrant has been issued for a California man in connection with a shooting early Monday that injured two people north of Lake Padden Park, just outside Bellingham city limits.
Whatcom County Undersheriff Jeff Parks said in a statement Friday afternoon that Alex Cameron Frost, 22, is facing two counts of first-degree assault with a firearm. He’s also suspected in a separate incident Sunday night – a drive-by shooting in the Alabama Hill neighborhood of Bellingham.
“Continuing investigation revealed that Frost has fled the area and a nationwide warrant has been obtained for his arrest,” Parks said. “It is possible that he is armed and should be considered dangerous.”
Frost is suspected of shooting two people in an apparent disagreement over money about 1:15 a.m. Monday in the 1900 block of Yew Street Road, south of Wade King Elementary School. Parks said the weapon was described as a small handgun.
Parks said a man in his 30s suffered a gunshot wound to the abdomen and a woman in her 20s was shot in the wrist. Both shooting victims went to separate hospitals by private vehicle, he said.
The man was driven to St. Joseph hospital in Bellingham by his girlfriend and the woman was driven by a friend to Skagit Valley Hospital in Mount Vernon. Their names were not provided and no details on their injuries were released.
Bellingham Police helped the sheriff’s office with the investigation both at the hospital and at the scene, said police Lt. Danette Beckley.
According to emergency radio broadcasts archived online, neighbors called 911 to report the shooting, saying they heard arguing, followed by several gunshots.
Parks said Frost was raised in Bellingham and went to Bellingham High School but has moved out of the area.
“(Frost) has lived Bellingham and California and it is believed that he currently has family living in the San Diego area, and has relatives in Whatcom County,” Parks said.
Frost was in the car that took the injured woman to the Mount Vernon hospital in a blue 2016 Nissan Altima that was loaned to Frost by Bellingham Nissan while Frost’s truck was being repaired there. Frost’s image was captured on security video at the hospital, Parks said.
Parks said Frost is also suspected in a drive-by shooting about 10:20 p.m. Sunday in the 2200 block of St. Clair Street. Someone fired a single shot from a small-caliber weapon through the window of a home.
No injuries were reported in that incident. A resident told The Bellingham Herald via social media that no one was in the room when the shot was fired.
Frost is described as white, 6 feet tall and weighing 205 pounds. He has hazel eyes and brown hair. Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to contact Whatcom County Sheriff’s detectives at 360-778-6600, or call 911.
