A small fire on the Lummi Peninsula closed a portion of Lummi Shore Road for about an hour mid-morning Tuesday, fire officials said.
Bellingham Fire and Whatcom County Fire District 8 crews were sent about 9:15 a.m. to investigate a large column of smoke near Lummi Shore and Cagey roads.
Firefighters found an approximately 50-foot by 100-foot fire on the beach east of Lummi Shore Road, said Bellingham Fire Assistant Chief Bill Hewett.
No injuries were reported.

Bellingham firefighters had to stretch their hoses across the road to fight the fire, forcing the road closure.
Cause of the fire remains under investigation, he said.
Firefighting operations were transferred to a state Department of Natural Resources wildland fire crew about 10:40 a.m., according emergency radio traffic.
Hewett said DNR would investigate the fire’s cause.
