BELLINGHAM - Buffalo Wild Wings is the latest new tenant to announce it is coming to Bellis Fair mall.
Buffalo Wild Wings Regional Manager Jay Dowed confirmed plans to put in a restaurant in the former movie theater space at the mall.
Dowed said they are still in the design stage, and he doesn't have the details yet, such as how big and the seating capacity. He did say they are planning for the restaurant to have its own separate entrance so people don't have to go through the food court.
He expects the restaurant to be ready sometime between September and December, depending on the remodeling process.
"We're excited to be coming up to Bellingham," Dowed said. "It seems like a great place."
Buffalo Wild Wings has restaurants in a variety of areas in Washington, including Marysville and Lynnwood. It's known for its chicken wings, offering 21 different sauces. It's also known as a gathering place for sporting events and has more than 950 locations.
The restaurant also tends to be open late. The Marysville restaurant is open from 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. every day except Sunday, when it closes at midnight.
Buffalo Wild Wings sold 1.3 billion traditional and boneless chicken wings in 2012, according to the company's website.
The announcement of Buffalo Wild Wings is happening during a busy remodeling period for Bellis Fair. Last month, Chipotle Mexican Grill filed building permits to put in a 2,536-square-foot restaurant in another part of the former movie theater area. The Regal Bellis Fair Cinemas 6 closed Jan. 26.
Clothing retailer H&M announced in January that it was opening a store, occupying about 19,000 square feet of space in the former Big 5 Sporting Goods space. Big 5 opened a new store on Meridian Street, near Walmart. The H&M store is expected to open later this spring or summer.
Tenant building permits have not yet been filed for the final movie theater space. According to building plans submitted to the city, 10,765 square feet is designated for a retail store.
