After 86 years of business, this Lynden company is rebranding with new name

Lynden Sheet Metal has operated in Whatcom County since 1940, but the company recently announced in a Feb. 2 news release that it is changing its name to LSM Heating Plumbing Electric, Inc.

Since beginning, the business has continued to grow exponentially. The company was founded 86 years ago by John Wynstra and Pete Douma, who started the company by building furnaces in-house. In 2009, plumbing services were first offered. In 2010, LSM was placed under new family ownership of Cory and Bobbi Kreider, and in 2020, electrical services were added.

The name change comes with a goal to better inform the community of the vast services they offer, according to the release.

“While longtime customers have always known who we are and what we do, our team discovered that many newer residents were surprised to learn that Lynden Sheet Metal provides heating, cooling, plumbing, electrical, and a wide range of home‑comfort solutions,” company President/CFO Bobbi Kreider said in the news release.

The well known Whatcom Company offers residential and commercial HVAC, metal fabrication, plumbing and electrical work.

“Since these services form the core of our business, we chose the new name to help customers immediately understand our capabilities. Importantly, LSM is not new — our buildings, vehicles, uniforms and signage have displayed the LSM initials for more than 50 years, making this transition a natural evolution that maintains continuity and trust,” Kreider said.

“Today we proudly offer heating and cooling services, gas fireplaces, water heaters, plumbing, electrical work, whole‑home generators and commercial refrigeration,” Kreider said in the news release. “In addition, our 90-plus employees handle kitchen hoods and exhaust systems, restaurant equipment repair, refrigerated trailer rentals, custom sheet‑metal fabrication, custom handrails, stairs, awnings, countertops, welding, and both residential and commercial new construction and retrofit services.”

LSM Heating Plumbing Electric, Inc. has offices in Lynden, Bellingham and Marysville.
