Holiday specials heat up in Whatcom County, plus offerings for pets parents and coffee fans
Here’s a roundup of recent retail and service industry activity around Whatcom County:
▪ A new business has created a new transportation option for pets.
Bellingham Pet Cab is now available to transport pets — but not humans —around western Whatcom County. Possibilities include trips to the veterinarian, groomer, day-care or visit a relative. The service is only available for non-emergency use.
Owner Grice Turner has 13 years of experience as the owner/operator of a mobile dog grooming service in Lubbock, Texas. Along with using a shuttle bus, Turner will employ crates to contain pets up to 29 inches in height at the shoulder.
Using Bellingham Pet Cab will allow someone access to the services that their pets need while being socially distant and reducing exposure to the COVID-19 virus, Turner said. After the pandemic is over Turner plans to continue the service because she believes there is a demand, particularly for pet owners who have trouble getting around, as well as those who want to save time.
Bellingham Pet Cab is available 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday. Special hours may be available by prior arrangement. Details can be found on the company’s website.
▪ The annual festivities and drinks at the Swim Club bar in Fairhaven will have a different setup as they continue to provide holiday cheer.
The plan is to be a pop-up retail store for its Miracle at Swim Club events. Customers can buy cocktail kits and glassware next door at Gainsbarre. They will also be serving up warm beverages for customers of all ages to enjoy outside in the festive holiday parklet, said Dutchie Broersma, who handles marketing for Swim Club.
Hours of the holiday retail shop at 1143 11th St. will be 3-6 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday; 3-8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Nov. 27 through Dec. 23.
“I hope it can bring the community some holiday joy during this tough time,” Broersma said in an email.
▪ Lynden Liquor has moved to a new space, but it’s not far from the original location.
The new space is at 655 Front St., in the Dutch Village Mall, across the street from its old spot, according to a Facebook post from the company.
▪ If the dark, rainy days have led you to a little too much caffeine, Tony’s Coffee has a new option to help dial it back. The Bellingham roaster recently introduced its Half Calf blend. Along with half the caffeine, it’s organic, part of fair trade, shade-grown and has hints of toffee, almond and baker’s chocolate, according to a Facebook post.
▪ For those looking for Christmas gift ideas, the Northwest Washington Fair is offering its biggest sale ever.
In a news release, the fair announced it is offering deals on three grandstand shows, gate admission season passes and unlimited carnival ride wristbands. Those who register by email get access to a presale starting Monday, Nov. 23; tickets are made available to general public on Tuesday, Dec. 1.
“Everyone is tired of not being able to do anything,” said Northwest Fair CEO Chris Pickering in a news release. “We are excited to offer some hope with the promise of a better-than-ever 2021 Fair.”
Tickets will go on sale Monday for the following acts: Darci Lynne Farmer on Wednesday, Aug. 18; Nelly on Thursday, Aug. 19; Party in the Dirt on Saturday, Aug. 2.
While the state of COVID-19 is uncertain for summer 2021, Pickering said they are working on a variety of plans to offer a safe experience, including reducing frequent touchpoints and exploring contactless payments.
