Grocery Outlet plans to hold a grand opening celebration for its new store on July 27.
The store takes up about 20,000 square feet in the former Cost Cutter building at 1750 Labounty Drive. The company, known for its discount prices on surplus grocery products, has a store in Bellingham.
Tenant improvements are on schedule, said Melissa Porter, vice president of marketing for the company. The owner of the Ferndale store is Larry Brown, who currently operates the Lynnwood Grocery Outlet.
The company announced in December that it was taking over the Cost Cutter space, having put Ferndale in its expansion plans more than a year ago.
While the company has more than 210 stores, each one is independently owned and operated. According to its website, Grocery Outlet offers brand-name products at up to 60 percent off conventional retail prices.
The company itself has been in an expansion mode. It added 16 stores in 2014 and plans to add 20 more in 2015.
