The purple paint is on the walls, the plant orders continue to arrive, and the owners are ready to restart a longtime garden nursery facility.
Jenny Gunderson and Bill Raynolds are putting the finishing touches on My Garden Nursery, which is scheduled to open at 9 a.m. Wednesday, April 1, at the former Bakerview Nursery site at 929 E. Bakerview Road. Along with herbs, vegetables, plants and trees, the nursery will have a variety of gardening equipment, with an emphasis on organic and environmentally friendly products.
My Garden Nursery takes over for Bakerview Nursery, which closed in the fall of 2013 after 42 years of business. Gunderson and Raynolds made several changes to put their own stamp on the nursery, including removing the second floor office area to create more of an open-air feel in the main building. Painting and some basic remodeling was done to give the area a fresh look and better flow for customers. The owners also want to eventually have a small café.
Having fun is also in the owners’ plans. A ping-pong table will be set up at the nursery for those who want to challenge Raynolds to a match. If someone can beat him, they will win a plant. Besting Raynolds could be a challenge, however: According to a company news release, only one customer could beat him when the couple operated My Garden Nursery for seven years in Mill Creek.

The nursery also will have a train table for children, a fairy festival, and a birthday club. My Garden Nursery is also regularly raising money for Alzheimer’s and breast cancer research.
Gunderson said they would have preferred to open sooner to take advantage of the early spring weather in Whatcom County. Even so, it was a quick turnaround, given that they officially signed on to move into the space in mid-February.
My Garden Nursery will have a grand opening celebration April 1-4, with door prizes each day. Once open, store hours will be 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. For more information, call 360-366-8406 or visit MyGardenNursery.com.
