Debris from Nooksack River bridge strikes vehicle on Interstate 5

An object apparently fell from the Nooksack River Bridge and struck the windshield of a passing SUV on Interstate 5 Thursday afternoon, Sept. 25.

The impact broke the windshield of the southbound SUV and threw glass inside, said Washington State Patrol Trooper Mark Francis. A female passenger in the front seat suffered minor injuries and was checked by medics. Two other people in the vehicle apparently were not hurt.

It was not immediately clear what fell about 3:45 p.m. Troopers were talking to workers who have been repainting the freeway bridges over the Nooksack River to try to determine what might have fallen and how.

No lanes were blocked during or after the incident.
