Gramma Hanson's Molasses Cookies

Cynthia White of Bellingham says this recipe, from her grandmother Irene Hanson, has always been one of her favorites and she has a hard time eating any other molasses cookie because of it.

GRAMMA HANSON'S MOLASSES COOKIES

Ingredients

2 cups flour

1/2 teaspoon salt

2 teaspoons baking soda

1/2 teaspoon cloves

1 teaspoon cinnamon

3/4 cup shortening

1 cup sugar

1/4 cup molasses

1 egg

Directions

Sift dry ingredients together twice.

Cream together shortening and sugar.

Add unbeaten egg to shortening and sugar and beat well.

Stir molasses into wet ingredients.

Add dry ingredients into wet ingredients by thirds.

Shape dough into balls and roll in sugar.

Place two inches apart on cookie sheet.

Bake on top rack at 350 degrees for 15 minutes.
