Holiday scents for many include the sweet smell of cookies baking in the oven. Bellingham Herald readers share these recipes and the family memories that go along with them.
CHOCOLATE DIPPED PEANUT BUTTER BALLS
Pat Provencher of Birch Bay says this recipe has been a favorite for many years, especially with her grandchildren. "I have entered it in the fair and it always gets a blue ribbon," she says, adding they keep well frozen.
3 cups crisp rice cereal
4 cups powdered sugar
l stick soft butter
2 cups peanut butter
2 squares paraffin
21/2 packages chocolate chips
Mix cereal, sugar, butter and peanut butter into dry dough.
Form dough into small balls.
Chill 1 hour.
Melt chocolate and wax over low heat.
Dip balls in chocolate, spearing them with toothpicks.
Place on wax paper to set.
