Holiday scents for many include the sweet smell of cookies baking in the oven. Bellingham Herald readers share these recipes and the family memories that go along with them.
PEANUT BUTTER COOKIES
Mary Cox of Blaine says these cookies were a big part of her childhood in Boston - they were the first cookies her mother let her help make.
1/2 cup butter or margarine
1/2 cup peanut butter
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
11/4 cups flour
3/4 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
Heat oven to 375 degrees.
Cream butter, peanut butter, sugars, egg and vanilla.
Sift together dry ingredients, blend into creamed mixture.
Shape into 1 inch balls, roll in granulated sugar.
Place 2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheet. Press fork tines crosswise over cookie.
Bake 10-12 minutes.
Cool slightly, remove from pan.
Makes four dozen.
