Holiday scents for many include the sweet smell of cookies baking in the oven. Bellingham Herald readers share these recipes and the family memories that go along with them.

WHITE CRESCENT MOONS

Adele Lloyd of Bellingham says she makes these easy cookies every Christmas.

INGREDIENTS

1 cup butter or margarine, softened

1 cup powdered sugar

21/4 cups flour

2 cups ground almonds

2 teaspoons vanilla

DIRECTIONS

Heat oven to 325 degrees.

Mix 1/2 cup powdered sugar and other ingredients, first with spoon, then use your hands to work dough until it holds together.

Roll dough into ropes as thick as your finger, cut into 2-inch lengths and pinch ends to taper. Shape into crescents.

Arrange on ungreased baking sheet.

Bake 20-25 minutes.

As soon as the crescents have cooled down enough to handle, roll them in remaining powdered sugar.

Makes 6 dozen.
