11/2 cups light brown sugar
2/3 cups shortening
2 eggs beaten well
1 cup raisins
2 teaspoons milk
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
1/3 teaspoon nutmeg
21/2 cups shifted flour
Heat oven to 400 degrees.
Beat eggs well, add the sugar and shortening and mix well.
Add remaining ingredients, mix thoroughly.
Lightly flour a pastry cloth and rolling pin.
Divide mixture in half and roll dough into a large circle.
Cut in irregular pieces and place on an ungreased cookie sheet.
Repeat with remaining dough.
Bake 10 minutes, until golden brown.
Cool on wire racks.
Makes 3-4 dozen.
