Robert and Marlene Spence of Whatcom County (Ferndale) will celebrate their 70th Wedding Anniversary Tuesday, July 10th.The couple were married in First Christian Church, Seattle, on July 10, 1942.Bob was stationed at Gray Field, Ft. Lewis and Marlene was employed at Lake Washington Shipyards, Kirkland. The couple lived in Olympia, Corvallis and Oklahoma City during the war years; then Bob attended Art Center School of Photography in Pasadena, CA. In 1950 he was hired by Sylvania Electric Photoflash Division in Chicago. In 1952 he was transferred to St. Louis as District Manager. He retired from GTE/Sylvania in 1977. They returned to the Northwest in 1983.Their children are Steve and wife Cindy of Alameda, CA; Thorne and wife Sandy of Ballwin, MO. Grandchildren Byron Spence with Kai Bresham of Bellingham; Emily and Paval Dominez of Dallas, TX, Shelly, Aaron, Sonya and Caleb Spence of Ballwin, MO. Their daughter Linda Hodges passed away in 2011.Bob and Marlene are members of Birchwood Presbyterian Church and thank God for their many blessings.
