Kenneth Eugene Gundel is celebrating his 90th birthday w/ a party at the home of his WA neighbors Wayne & Sherry Lersbak. The party will be held on the afternoon of May 22nd which precedes his actual birthday which falls on May 23rd. Since his birth in 1920, Ken has seen 17 Presidents in the White House, has lived in 20 different locations & resided in 40 different dwellings along w/ his beloved wife Peggy. Ken & Peggy celebrated their 70th anniversary of marriage this yr. They currently reside 7 mos of the yr in Sun Lakes, AZ & the remainder of their time at their home in Lynden, WA. Ken, born in Kansas, moved to Longmont, Colorado where he graduated from Longmont HS & met his future wife Peggy Booth. After marrying in 1940, Ken & Peggy moved to Portland, OR & welcomed their first daughter, Carole. World War II interrupted the new family’s beginning as he joined the Seabee’s & served his country honorably from 1942-1946 in the South Pacific theater & occupied Japan. Son Greg was born after his return & their second daughter Mary followed. After returning home from WWII, Ken found a job working for Consolidated Supply in Portland, OR from 1946-1972, managing branches throughout the Pacific NW. Ken decided to venture out on his own and purchased Bellingham Supply Co. in 1972. After Ken sold the business in 1979 he & Peggy traveled the world & became snowbirds living part time in AZ & WA. Ken was the President of his recreational community, Venture Out in Mesa, AZ. He farmed & raised livestock on Samish Island. He has been an avid golfer, is an extraordinary landscaper, & has been an exceptional father. The party will be hosted by his daughter, Mary Sisson & his daughter-in-law & son, Kathy & Greg Gundel
