Born November 29, 1918 in Burlington, WA, Floyd Sandell will celebrate his 90th birthday with family and friends. His wife Verna (Pettett) has been by his side for 67 years. They have two children; Linda (Phil) Thorsteinson and Deane (Susan) Sandell, three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Floyd and Verna belong to Trinity Lutheran Church.
Floyd graduated from Washington State College (WSU) in vocational agriculture and taught for 44 years (27 years at Bellingham High School). He also bred, raised and milked registered Guernseys from 1947 to 1977, was advisor to Whatcom County FFA and was voted into the Washington State Dairy Hall of Fame.
In 1970, Floyd designed and initiated the Farm Management Program at Whatcom Community College. When a "Hall of Distinction" was established for WCC in 2006, Floyd was honored as the first inductee.
