Amber Matheis, the daughter of Tim and Mimi Matheis of Bellingham, and Rob Nelson, the son of Brian and Joanne Nelson of Kent, have announced their engagement to be married.
Amber, who was born and raised in Bellingham and is a graduate of Bellingham High School, earned her BA from the University of Washington and her MA from Seattle University. In her third year of teaching at Chief Sealth High School in West Seattle she is head of the math department and plans to continue. Rob is a graduate of Kent-Meridian High School and earned an engineering degree from Western Washington University. He works as an electrical engineer for Korry Electronics in Seattle.
They first met at a missionary's retreat in Indiana after he had returned from a year in Egypt and she had just completed a two-year urban mission in Seattle before attending grad school. Rob spent another two years on a mission in Tanzania.
Their relationship flourished after he returned. A December wedding is planned at the St. Joseph Parish Church in Seattle.
