James & Lillian Young celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with family at Cannon Beach, Oregon on July 23rd. Seattle natives, they married after meeting at the University of Washington where both earned degrees from the School of Music. Jim had served as a combat infantryman in the European Theater in WWII. Both taught music in Seattle and Renton, and Jim was PR director for the Renton School District.
They were very athletic, enjoying skiing, hiking, biking & boating. After retirement, they traveled extensively throughout the world, including Australia, Asia, Egypt, Russia, Finland, The Caribbean and Europe.
They remained active in numerous musical groups in both Seattle and Bellingham. The couple moved to Bellingham in 2005 to be closer to their two children, daughter, Taimi & Husband, Bill Gorman and son, Joel & wife, Kandee Young. They have three grandchildren, Sean Gorman and Mari & Evan Young.
They attribute their long marriage to sharing common interests and being active together.
