Renee Proehl and John Szenasi announce their engagement and plans for an August 16th wedding at Christ the Servant Lutheran Church in Bellingham. Renee is originally from Bradshaw, NE, served in the U.S. Coast Guard for 20 years before volunteering for one year's service with Habitat for Humanity in Southeast Asia, moving to Bellingham in 2001 and recently graduating from Western Washington University. She now works at St. Francis Extended Healthcare as a Recreation Therapist. John is originally from Perth Amboy, NJ, served in the U.S. Navy for 10 years as an independent duty corpsman which is what brought him to Washington State in 1979. He worked for several years in the operating room at St. Joseph’s Hospital and now works both as a REMax realtor and for the Bellingham Surgery Center. Both attribute the treasure of each other to God who brought them together. The couple first met for a walk in Birch Bay and have been walking together ever since. John proposed at the arrival gate (yes, inside the security zone at SeaTac airport complete with a bottle of champagne and flowers) when Renee returned from a trip to Colorado.
