Kay (Koetje) Dyksterhuis will celebrate her 90th birthday on February 3. She was born in Michigan and moved to Sumas with her family in 1919. She graduated from Lynden High in 1934. After various jobs and three years at a mission school for the Navajos, she married John Dyksterhuis of Sumas. They had 59 years together before John’s death in 2002. There are 4 children, 9 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren.
Her creative talents include writing, gardening, sewing, and cooking. Favorite pastimes are music, reading, and visiting. She is a member of Sumas Christian Reformed Church.
When asked why she is living so long she replied, “The Lord still has work for me to do.”
There will be an open house Sunday, February 3, 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. at the church on the corner of Sumas Ave. and 3rd Street. All friends and relatives welcome - no gifts please. The family is creating a memory book and would like your written contribution. Her home is now at Meadowgreen Retirement Center, 301 W. Homestead Blvd., Lynden 98264.
