With a flurry of sales in August, this summer turned out to be a busy one for Whatcom County real estate agents.
Last month local agents sold 317 homes and condominiums, up 15.7 percent compared to a year ago, according to the latest data from the Northwest Multiple Listing Service.
For the months of June, July and August, agents sold 912 homes and condos, a 4.6 percent increase compared to last summer.
The August sales total was the highest in 13 months, according to the data.

The median price also rose in August. Last month the median price of those sales was $265,000, up 4.6 percent compared to a year ago.
In the 21 Washington counties the NWMLS serves, the median price was $287,500, up 1.6 percent. King County had the highest median price last month, coming in at $398,000.
The coming months are typically slower than the summer when it comes to residential sales in Whatcom County, and that is indicative in the newest listings. Last month 416 houses and condos were listed for sale, down from 497 in July and 506 in June.
Overall sales across the 21 Washington counties totaled 7,775 last month, down less than 1 percent compared to a year ago. Skagit County real estate agents sold 174 houses and condos last month, three more than a year ago.
