Earlier this month Usanee and Scott Klimo opened a new restaurant called Maikham at 1311 N. State St., in the former Dashi Noodle Bar space.
Usanee was born in Thailand near the Laos border and as a child became immersed in the cooking traditions of Thailand’s Isaan region, traditions that she’s incorporated into the new restaurant. She operated a catering business in the San Francisco Bay Area before moving to Bellingham two years ago.
The restaurant is open 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Saturday, closed Sunday. For details, call 360-366-8193.

•Fairhaven Pizza and Prawns
is hosting its third annual Alaska Day from 2 to 9 p.m. Oct. 18-19 at1307 11th St.
Owner Tom Trailbush is an Alaska native and travels back each year to fish for Alaska spot prawns. Alaska Day is the state holiday that marks the anniversary of the official transfer of the territory from Russia to the U.S. in 1867. The celebration will include food, drinks and prizes.

Chipotle: Scheduled to open Friday, Oct. 31, at Bellis Fair.
