Fire station pancake feed Saturday in Geneva; safety fair in Sudden Valley

Make it a day of safety in the Geneva and Sudden Valley areas south of Bellingham, first with a firehouse pancake breakfast and later a safety fair.

At South Whatcom Fire Authority's pancake breakfast, you'll eat eggs, pancakes and ham from 7 a.m. to noon Saturday, Oct. 11, at Station 21, 4518 Cable St. near Geneva Street. Cost is $5 per person and $15 per family..

Diners will get a chance to tour the firehouse and look inside fire engines and ambulances. There's also the Fire Safety House, where visitors watch a video and then practice what they've learned to a escape a simulated fire. Firefighters will be available answer questions about smoke alarms, car seats, fire extinguishers and other home-safety issues. At Sudden Valley's free Safety Fair, from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 8 Barn View Court inside Gate 2, there will be informational booths on earthquake preparedness, fire safety and bicycle safety, among others. South Whatcom fire will have a crew at the safety fair, too.
