Watch the heavens during a star party at Artist Point on Saturday

With the nearly new moon at apogee (its farthest orbital point from Earth), the Whatcom Association of Celestial Observers is planning a free star party for 8 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 20, at Artist Point, the vista on the east end of the Mount Baker Highway.

Weather permitting, club members bring their telescopes and share their knowledge of astronomy and astronomical events.

Parking at Artist Point requires a seasonal Northwest Forest Pass or $5 day-use pass available from a kiosk in the park and at the Glacier Public Service Center just east of Glacier on the Mount Baker Highway.
