BOOKS: Jeremy Pataky returns to Bellingham to read from debut poetry book

Jeremy Pataky, a 2001 Western Washington University graduate and University of Montana alum, reads from his debut book of poetry, “Overwinter,” at 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 6, at Village Books, 1200 11th St.

The book was published this spring by University of Alaska Press in the Alaska Literary Series. “Overwinter” reconciles the natural quiet of wilderness with the clamor of built environments. Pataky’s time that he splits between Anchorage and Wrangell-St. Elias National Park inspired the poems that connect urban to rural.

He has worked as a wilderness guide, nonprofit executive director, university instructor, and after-school poetry teacher. He also is a founding board member of 49 Writers, Inc.
