MUSIC: Charging up the blues and boogie at the YWCA

Seattle’s Del Rey packs a whole orchestra into her custom-made resonator guitar and ukulele. Her guitar playing combines country blues, classic jazz and hillbilly boogie through the sensibility of a trailer park esthete. She’s fun to watch with her dancing feet, infectious smile, and elegant but goofy outfits.

She teams up with Berkeley, Calif.’s Suzy Thompson, famed for her emotionally charged blues fiddling and vocals, in a concert at 7 p.m. Friday, May 1, at the YWCA ballroom, 1026 N. Forest ST.

Besides their original material, they channel the spirits of Memphis Minnie, Sister Rosetta Tharpe, Bessie Smith and other blues icons, digging up obscure gems from the 1920s and ’30s.

Admission is $15 at the door. More on the musicians: http://delreyplays.com, ericandsuzy.com. Event details: 360-733-5960.
