Swiss-born American pianist Gilles Vonsattel completes this season’s 2014-15 Sanford Hill Piano Series with a concert at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 11 at Western Washington University’s Concert Hall.
In addition to his Bellingham date, Vonsattel’s recent schedule includes performances at the Library of Congress, Musée d’Orsay and Atlanta’s Spivey Hall.
Vonsattel began touring after capturing the top prize at the prestigious 2002 Naumburg International Piano Competition. He went on to win numerous prizes in major international events, including the Cleveland and Honens competitions, and he won the 2006 Concours de Genève and an Avery Fisher career grant.
He has performed at Warsaw’s Chopin Festival, and with the Boston Pops Orchestra, the Boston Symphony Orchestra and the San Francisco Symphony, among others. He also has been heard frequently on NPR’s “Performance Today,” CBC, and the BBC.
