POETRY: “SpeakEasy 16, Fresh Minds, New Words” focuses on poetry for kids at Mount Baker Theatre

In celebration of National Poetry Month and in conjunction with Poetry CHaT, a group at Western Washington University assembling a definitive collection of children’s poetry books published since 1960, “SpeakEasy 16: Fresh Minds, New Words” presents poetry by and for children at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 12, at Mount Baker Theatre’s Encore Room, 104 N. Commercial St.

The event features Pamela Porter, author of “The Crazy Man,” a Canadian Governor General’s Award-winning children’s poetry book, along with two dozen children and adults reading poems. Porter will also give a talk and reading at 4 p.m. Saturday at Village Books, 1200 11th St.
