The Bellingham Comic Arts Festival (BellCAF), a new, free festival organized by Bellingham-based comics publisher Neoglyphic Media, with support from Pickford Film Center and Make.Shift Gallery, runs from noon to 7 p.m. Saturday, March 14, at the Majestic, 1027 N. Forest St.
Neoglyphic Media is run by editor and publisher Cullen Beckhorn, who is also the founder of the Alternative Library, 1417 Railroad Ave.
BellCAF will feature more than 60 independent creators and small publishers in a one-day exhibition where their work will be available for purchase.
The festival will be unlike other comic conventions in Bellingham in past years. There will be no dealers and comic shops with rows of boxes of old comics. Instead, tables have been reserved entirely for creators of small-press and handmade books and other comic art.

The artists selected represent diverse styles and approaches to their art, with many publications made by hand in small print runs that may only be available at the event.
Immediately after the festival, people can join the artists at 8 p.m at Pickford’s Limelight Cinema, 1416 Cornwall Ave., for the BellCAF Animation Showcase. The show will feature animations and theatrical comics performances from BellCAF exhibitors, hosted by the Portland comic performance group Gridlords.
In addition, Make.Shift Gallery will host a selection of original artwork from BellCAF exhibitors through March.
