Film: AARRGH! Pirates, pilaging and live tunes

Dress as a pirate and get free popcorn at a screening of the 1926 film “The Black Pirate” at either 4 or 9 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 31, at Pickford Film Center, 1318 Bay St. The screenings include live music performed by Bellingham’s Rattletrap Ruckus, with Lucas Hicks, Clea Taylor, Casey Connor and Jenny Rose.

In “The Black Pirate,” a young aristocrat, sworn to avenge his father’s murder, takes on a new role as an infamous pirate, cheerfully pillaging the seven seas until he achieves proper justice.

The rapid-paced, silent Douglas Fairbanks swashbuckler is rampant with stuntwork and, accompanied by a wonderful live performance, is top-notch fun perfect for the whole family. Watch for a cameo by Mary Pickford.
