Chuckanut Radio Hour celebrates eight years on Jan. 22

The Chuckanut Radio Hour celebrate its eighth anniversary on Thursday, Jan. 22, at Whatcom Community College’s Heiner Center Theater with highlights and clips from some of the best of 2014, a new essay by Alan Rhodes, music by The Walrus, and a new episode of the “Bellingham Bean.”

The Chuckanut Radio Hour, a recipient of Bellingham’s Mayor’s Arts Award, is a radio variety show that began in January 2007. Each show includes guest authors, musicians, performance poet Kevin Murphy, Cascadia Weekly columnist Alan Rhodes, and episodes of “The Bellingham Bean” serial radio comedy, not to mention groaner jokes by hosts Chuck and Dee Robinson and announcer Rich Donnelly.

The show’s first guest author was Erik Larson and has since included Alexander McCall Smith, Ruth Ozeki, Cheryl Strayed, Sherman Alexie, Tom Robbins and Garrison Keillor, among others. The show airs every Saturday at 6 p.m. and Sunday at 9 p.m. on SPARK RADIO, KMRE 102.3FM.

Show tickets are $5, available at Village Books, 1200 11th St, and at BrownPaperTickets.com. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.; guests must be seated by 6:45 as the show begins promptly at 7.
