Mount Baker Theatre’s Silent Film Series features 1927’s ‘Love,’ with Greta Garbo

“Love ,” a 1927 film starring Greta Garbo and John Gilbert, is featured in Mount Baker Theatre’s Silent Film Series at 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 11, at Mount Baker Theatre, 104 N. Commercial St.

Based on Leo Tolstoy’s timeless novel “Anna Karenina,” the romantic drama paired two of the biggest stars of the time in a tale of forbidden love, providing the public with a taste of Gilbert-Garbo chemistry that would never again be matched.

Guest organist and historic preservationist Dennis James has spent more than 40 years honing his craft as a solo film accompanist, providing silent films with period-authentic live music using the original scores issued with the films or historic photoplay assemblages. James plays the exciting scores on Mount Baker’s refurbished Wurlitzer, recreating the original sound of silent films first shown at the theater when it opened in 1927.

Tickets are $10, $15 and $22.50 at 360-734-6080 and mountbakertheatre.com.
