Whatcom Jazz Music Art Center presents Seattle pianist John Hansen, one of the most in-demand jazz pianists in the Northwest, at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 17, at The Majestic, 1027 N. Forest St.
The concert features Jon Hamar on bass and Julian MacDonough on drums. Tickets are $10 general, $5 students, free for art center members.
A musical ensemble player with a strong melodic vocabulary, Hansen’s performance history includes such venues as New York City’s Birdland, The Jazz Standard, Dizzy’s Club Coca-Cola, the John F. Kennedy Center of the Performing Arts, Seattle’s Jazz Alley, and international festivals and tours in France, Japan, South Korea, Eastern Europe, Central Asia, Russia and Central America.
Hansen has performed and recorded with many of the Northwest’s premiere bands, including the Jay Thomas Quartet, Jim Knapp Orchestra, Kelley Johnson, and The Bill Ramsay-Milt Kleeb Band. He has been invited to perform with The Seattle Symphony, Randy Brecker, Ernestine Anderson, The Woody Herman Orchestra, Bud Shank, and David “Fathead” Newman.
